U-High 21   Olympia 0

The Pioneers kicked off the 2005 season with a bang on Friday night shutting down the Olympia offense holding them to zero points and six turnovers.  Not to forget the U-High offense which scored 21 points all the in the first half.  "Overall, I'm pretty happy," Olson said. "This is a huge weight off our shoulders to get No. 1. We've really come together and become a tight knit group. If we can keep improving, who knows how good we can be. I'm real happy with that balance."The Pioneers got on the board with an early touchdown pass from senior QB Josh Cox to junior WR David Johnson.  U-High jumped ahead to a 14 point lead after a 59 yard run by senior RB Josh Maher.   "It was awesome," Maher said. "The hole was the size a truck could go through it. I just followed it. They led me all the way."During a postgame interview junior WR Joe Anhalt said, "A shutout victory like this could spark a great season with good things to come."

U-High vs. Central Catholic

This week brings about an age old rivalry dating back to the early 1900's.  This is probably the most anticipated game of the season for both teams.  After two straight victories in the intercity the Pioneers got the taste of bitter defeat last season with a 35-21 loss to Central Catholic.  Both teams come into this game with 1-0 records looking to remain undefeated in their quest for a playoff birth.

Pontiac

U-High  10    vs.    Pontiac   44

The Pioneers went to Pontiac on Friday facing overwhelming odds and a pretty good footballteam.  The Pioneers fought hard to the bitter end but once again came up short on the scoreboard.Playing in front of a raucous crowd and in a hostileenvironment for the first time didn't really effect the team however.  "Going on the road to play at a tough place like Pontiac isn't easy and I was a little worried about how the younger guys would respond, but it really didn't effect them and I thought they did a good job," said senior Matt Schweers.  The Pioneers look toget on the winning track this week on Friday when theytravel to Fairbury for a 7:45 battle with Prairie Central
